TexAnn Softball earns No. 5 seed in NCAA South Central Region 1 tournament

STEPHENVILLE – The No. 15 TexAnns are headed to Grand Junction, Colorado for the NCAA playoffs as Tarleton earned the No. 5 seed in the South Central region to qualify for the national postseason for the sixth time in school history and the second straight under head coach Mark Cumpian.
Eight teams represent the South Central region in the NCAA playoffs, which includes the tournament champions from the Lone Star, Heartland, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences as well as five at-large teams from those leagues. The top two seeds in the region will play host to a double elimination tournament, after which the winning teams from each location will meet in the Super Regional Series for the chance to play in the Women’s College World Series.


Tarleton is headed to the Region 1 tournament in Grand Junction, which is hosted by Colorado Mesa. The TexAnns will open the tournament against No. 4 seed Texas A&M-Commerce while Mesa will play No. 8 Rogers State, who won the Heartland Conference tournament to earn an automatic berth.
In the Region 2 tournament, Angelo State will play host to West Texas A&M, Cameron, and Colorado Christian. The winner of that tournament will advance to the Super Regionals against the winner of the Region 1 tournament.
Tarleton is 47-9 this season with a new school record for wins in a season. Game times and ticket information will be made available throughout the week. The tournament will begin Thursday, May 10 and play through Saturday, May 12.
