Texan Baseball earns first-round bye in LSC Tournament as regular season ends

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton was on a bye week during the final weekend of the regular season but as the rest of the conference finished things up, the Texans locked up second place in the league standings.
The second-place finish in the league standings is the highest for Tarleton since 2013 when Tarleton won the regular season title. The Texans have an overall record of 33-15.
West Texas A&M secured the top seed and will host next week’s Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament after taking three of four at Angelo State last weekend. Texas A&M-Kingsville secured the No. 3 seed while Angelo, Eastern New Mexico, and UT Permian Basin round out the tournament field, respectively. As the top two seeds, West Texas A&M and Tarleton received first-round byes in the newly formatted conference tournament.

This is the first year for the league baseball tournament to play under the new six-team, single-elimination format. The top two teams automatically advance to the semifinals while No. 3 Kingsville will take on No. 6 UT Permian Basin Thursday at 3 p.m. and No. 4 Angelo State will play No. 5 Eastern New Mexico immediately after at 7 p.m.
The winner of Kingsville-UT Permian Basin will play Tarleton on Friday at 3 p.m. while the winner of the other quarterfinal will play West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. The winners of the semifinal games will meet in the tournament championship Saturday at 3 p.m.
All games will be played at Wilder Park in Canyon. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA South Central regional tournament.
There will be live stats and a live video feed for each game of the tournament. The games will also be broadcasted on the Tarleton Sports Network 90.5 FM in Stephenville and online at TarletonSports.com/ListenLive.
