STEPHENVILLE – New program standards continue to be set every day for TexAnn Softball as Tarleton had three players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Second Team.
Jordan Withrow, Tanna Huie, and Georgia Capell were recognized by the top fastpitch softball organization among the best players in the South Central Region Wednesday afternoon. It’s the first time in program history that Tarleton has had three NFCA all-region selections in the same season and the first award winners since Katelyn Conlee in 2015.
Withrow, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Trenton, enjoyed a banner sophomore season after stepping into the team’s top starting spot. She was recently named the Lone Star Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, in addition to all-conference first team honors. The sophomore right-hander is 24-6 in the circle with a 2.34 ERA and leads the Lone Star Conference with 232 strikeouts, which also makes her the first player in school history to strike out over 200 in a season.

Huie, a junior outfielder from Paris, recently became the fourth Tarleton player in school history and the first since Samantha Swanda in 2011 to be named the Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year, as well as All-LSC first team. The junior outfielder is hitting .409 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in her debut campaign with the purple and white. She also scored 41 runs for the year. Huie finished the regular season No. 5 in the LSC in batting average and No. 9 in RBI.
Capell, a freshman designated player from Midlothian, smashed her way onto the league’s first team after an impressive rookie year that earned her the LSC Freshman of the Year award and All-LSC first team honors. She’s the second player in school history and first since Geeslin in 2001 to bring home the top freshman award from the LSC. She finished the regular season with the fourth-most home runs in the league and set a single-season record for home runs by a freshman with 16 on the year. She is hitting .384 with 48 RBI, which was the sixth-most RBI in the league.
The all-region teams honor softball student-athletes from the nation’s eight regions. The teams are voted on by NFCA member coaches from each region and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
Tarleton is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation by the NFCA and is in Grand Junction, Colorado for the South Central Region 1 Tournament. The TexAnns will begin the national playoffs with a 4 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. MT game against Texas A&M-Commerce tomorrow afternoon at Colorado Mesa’s Softball Field.
