STEPHENVILLE – Destiney Winkfield, a former standout point guard at Richland High School and Weatherford Junior College, is the first summer signing for the Tarleton TexAnn basketball program.

“Destiney is a true point guard with a pass-first mentality,” said head coach Misty Wilson. “She has great court vision and really uses her speed and quickness to create opportunities for the players around her. She is extremely quick and can accelerate in the open floor to increase transition opportunities as well. We are excited to add her to our roster because she gives us the opportunity to change our style of play at times and adds a dimension of versatility to the players around her.

“As a coach, it is comforting to know that Destiney had offers from Division I schools and chose to be here,” she continued. “I am looking forward to coaching Destiney for the next two years and I am excited about she will bring to the team and the Tarleton community.”

Winkfield starred on the court for four years at Richland High School, earning all-district accolades in all four seasons of varsity competition. In her senior campaign at Richland, she averaged 20 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.

She took her talents to Weatherford Junior College over the last two seasons and made an immediate impact, leading the team with a .431 shooting percentage from the floor while dishing out 2.6 assists and making 2.1 steals per game. Last year, she enjoyed a career season with 10.0 points per game on a .428 shooting percentage while averaging 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Winkfield is the third member of this year’s recruiting class, joining high school signees Marissa Escamilla and Kandyn Faurie who signed during the early signing period last November.
