Stephenville’s trio of athletes at the state track and field championships in Austin this weekend came away with a pair of sixth-place finishes and an eighth place.

Defending state champion high jumper Blake Aragon and other jumpers struggled in windy conditions. Aragon jumped 6-4 and finished in sixth place as Stafford’s Kenneth Bodwin won the event with a leap of 6-6.

Aragon’s is hanging up his high school track shoes for college football cleats but sophomore triple jumper Shayden Toof and 100-meter hurdler Bailey McBee have strong chances of returning to the state meet and grabbing one of those elusive medals.

McBee ran the second fastest time of her career clocking a 14.9. Toof fouled her first jump and was way below her norm on her second before recovering with the second best jump of her career with a mark 36-2.25.
