STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that Nathan Hickey and Casey Wild are the May recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award.

The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.

Hickey enjoyed a banner season in his senior campaign, in which he was named the LSC Pitcher of the Year, All-LSC First Team, All-LSC Gold Glove, NCBWA and D2CCA All-Region First Team. He joins Paul Darnell (1999) and Joel Robinson (2003) as the only Texan hurlers to claim the league’s top pitching honor. He tied the single-season wins mark by earning the victory in the LSC Tournament championship game to give Tarleton an automatic berth in the NCAA playoffs for the fourth time in school history. He also set the single-season strikeout record for the Tarleton program with 96 punch outs this year. For the month of May, Hickey was 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Hickey is a two-time All-LSC First Team and Gold Glove selection, as well as a six-time All-Region award winner and an honorable mention All-American by the NCBWA.

Casey Wild finished in a four-way tie for seventh place at the NCAA Division II Golf Championship at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston. Wild, who played as an individual at the championship, had rounds of 69-74-76-76 for a final score of 295 (+7) at the Par-72, 6,103-yard course. This was the second straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships for Wild, who placed sixth overall last season as a junior. This performance came after Wild finished fifth overall at the West Regional with a score of 225 (+9). Wild was two strokes off the lead.
