John Donald McEwin, age 77, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, in Comanche, Texas.  He was born on January 12, 1941, in Comanche, Texas, to Edward Dean and Willie Jim (Hunter) McEwin.  On April 12, 2014, he was united in marriage to Darlene (Hightower) McEwin.

 

John graduated from Comanche High School in 1960. He was in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He married Cheryl Jean Hightower in 1964 and they were married until she passed away in 2012. He worked for Continental Air Lines for 37+ years. In John’s capacity as Director of Passenger Services for Continental, he met many celebrities and public officials. After retirement, he worked for Crystal Limousines as a driver for 9 years. John took up golf in the early 1990’s.  He played many tournaments, once with Mickey Mantle and partnered with Yogi Berra. At one time John had a “5” handicap and impressively hit 2 holes-in-one at Owasso Golf Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Comanche, where he and Darlene were members of the Pairs and Spares Bible Study Class.

 

John brought out “the best” in all of us.

 

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Causey McEwin of Comanche; one son, Erik and wife Rita McEwin; one daughter, Laurie Guthrie; step-daughter, Lisa and husband Michael Head; three grandchildren, Kelsey and husband Austin Snyder, Christopher Guthrie and Madison McEwin; one step granddaughter, Stephanie and husband Kyle Parker; and siblings: Mattie Woolsey, Clint and wife Shirley McEwin, Ray and wife Marianne McEwin, Lynzi and husband Keny Arnold, Becky and husband Gary Wilkerson, Peggy and husband Kenneth Robinson and Terrie Rigby. John was preceded in death by parents and one brother Billy Dean McEwin, a sister, Mary Ellen Zeiss.
