TARLETON STATE (June 9, 2018) – Tarleton State University and its award-winning Aeronautical Team, along with the American Astronautical Society (AAS), welcomed more than 40 college and university teams from around the world to Stephenville for the 14th annual International CanSat Competition, June 8-10.

Teams traveled to Tarleton from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India, Iran, Turkey, Poland and the U.K., among others. In addition to Tarleton and AAS, this year’s CanSat competition is sponsored by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, NASA, Siemens, Kratos and Praxis Inc.

Teams launched probes inside rockets to an altitude of 670-725 meters as part of a complex engineering project that involves preliminary design, launch competition and a post-mission debriefing. Sensors on the probes will track altitude using air pressure, external temperature, battery voltage and GPS position. Each probe carried a hen’s egg, which must survive the flight.
