Adams, Wild named LSC Scholar-Athletes

STEPHENVILLE – The annual Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners were announced Tuesday with two Tarleton student-athletes honored by league officials.

Blake Adams of Tarleton Baseball and Casey Wild of Tarleton Golf were selected as by the LSC as the Scholar-Athlete award winners from Tarleton.

Adams was named to three different All-America teams for his efforts on the field as a senior. He is the first Texan in program history with three All-American honors.

Adams put together arguably one of the greatest offensive seasons in program history as the senior from Longview is hit .390 with 74 runs scored, 16 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs, and 69 RBI – all from the leadoff spot in the Tarleton lineup. He led the league in runs scored, home runs, slugging percentage (.781), and hit by pitches (25) while also ranking among the top three in the LSC in batting average, hits, and RBI. His 17 home runs were the second-most in a single season in school history and the most in a season for a Texan since the school joined the NCAA.

He was named the LSC Tournament Championship MVP after hitting .667 with six runs scored, seven RBI, and three home runs for the weekend. He is a two-time All-LSC First Team selection and a three-time All-Region honoree in his career. With Adams leading the charge, the Texans earned a trip to the fourth NCAA regional tournament in school history after winning the LSC Tournament Championship.

Wild finished her senior season as the No. 21-ranked player in NCAA Division II according to GolfStat. She finished in seventh place on the individual leaderboard at the NCAA Golf Championships in Houston, carding a four-round score of 295 (+7). The senior from Australia had a season scoring average of 75.16 with eight top-20 finishes, six top-10 and one tournament win at the Flagler Fall Slam.

Wild also earned her second consecutive All-America honor from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association earlier this month. She was an All-LSC First Team selection this season as well.

Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.
