STEPHENVILLE (June 26, 2018)– The Fourth of July is fast approaching, and the community of Stephenville is ready to celebrate. Events are planned across the community throughout the day for all ages.
Beginning at 9 a.m. is the annual Independence Day Celebration Parade. The parade begins at the south entrance of the Stephenville City Park. The route travels up Graham St. to Washington, turns left on Washington and ends at the intersection of Harbin and Washington.
The deadline to enter a float into the parade is June 30. Participants can register with SPARD.
BBQ, Bands and Bottle Rockets on the Bosque begins right after the parade at 10 a.m. at the Stephenville City Park. Most funds raised from the event will be given to a selected Erath County non-profit organization.
The barbecue cook-off will be made up of three categories — brisket, pork ribs and chicken. The entry fee is $150 to enter all three categories. First through third of each category will be given cash prizes. There will also be an award for Best of Show and Chef’s Choice.
A variety of vendors will sell food while non-profit organizations will host the kids’ area of the event. Activities such as face painting and bounce houses will be available. Wrist bands are $10.
Billy Hartman and Holly Jo Samsill will play from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Clint Janisch and Kathryn Strdwick will play from noon to 1:15 p.m. Thomas Napp and Caleb Allemand will play from 1:30 p.m to 2:45 p.m. Buck Fuffalo and Dillan Poe will play from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event will last until 5 p.m. As part of the Texstar Ford Summer Nights Concert series, Larry Joe Taylor and the Tejas Brothers will perform from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Birdson Amphitheater.
At around 10 p.m. fireworks will begin at the Stephenville City Park.
