Tarleton State head basketball coach Chris Reisman and staff welcome 150 elite basketball campers this morning at Wisdom Gym.
Monday morning found campers working hard on free throws and assistant coaches scrambling with clipboards and writing down names. One-on-one drills, team concepts, and full-blown games are sandwiched around some swim and free time.
“We are going to break down into teams later today from 3-5 p.m. and play games in both gyms,” Reisman said.
Campers filled the walls of both ends of the gym as a free throw contest was underway as Reisman watched over his assistant coaches.
“This is great,” Reisman said. “We’ve had a great turn out this year with only a limited number of spots still available today.”
For Reisman, it’s a chance to watch his players coach and go back through the fundamentals as they pass on their knowledge of the hardwood.
“This is always a great opportunity to see what kind of work ethic our newer players bring with them,” Reisman said. “Working here gives them a little bit of an eye-opener into what I expect.”

Ten bucks and are hard stare if you’re lucky.
The apple didn’t fall far from the tree in the Reisman family, and Lonn Reisman’s letting go of the reins of the Texan basketball team isn’t going to turn down the level of expectation.
“Some of the new guys were a little wide-eyed after the first day after I told them I expected more from them,” Reisman said. “Our veterans just nodded their heads letting them know this is serious out here.”
That’s because Reisman expects elite coaching at his elite camp or for any other camp he hosts for that matter.
“These kids are out here trying to get better, and we want them to have fun and be motivated,” Reisman said. “That means giving them our attention and keeping our phone in our pockets.”
That level of attention isn’t missed by the younger players either as one young man was overheard whispering to a fellow camper.
“He knew my name!” he said with the excitement evident in his voice. “He said if I keep it up I could be the best free-throw shooter here!”
