Covered in downed tree limbs from late February’s ice storm, the property was considered an eyesore by residents who didn’t know the owner has medical issues and little money for cleanup.
The cleanup is part of the Division of Student Affairs’ Good Neighbor initiative under the direction of Darrell Brown, executive director of Community Outreach and Fraternity and Sorority Life.
“Tarleton is proud to be in Stephenville, and we recognize the importance of working together on important initiatives to keep our community looking nice,” Brown said.
Members of the Tarleton Texan football team volunteered to do the heavy lifting with some help from the city of Stephenville.
“Student Affairs is committed to developing and promoting a positive relationship with Stephenville and its residents,” Brown said. “The Good Neighbor effort is just another way Tarleton can show its appreciation for being part of the city and Erath County.”
The initiative also focuses on helping commuter students effectively engage the community and exhibit Tarleton’s core values as residents. Brown will release an Off-Campus Living Guide later this summer.
