The TexAnn Basketball Camp at Tarleton State is packed to the max with 175 campers taking part and for head coach Misti Wilson, it’s a sign women’s athletics are getting stronger and better.

“These are great numbers to see and they give our staff and players a chance to take on new roles and learn from them,” Wilson said. “Each year we have been seeing bigger numbers and girls who are coming in with better skills than they had the year before.”

Wilson’s goal is to see players attending her camp to improve their skills and she encourages her staff to instill confidence along the way. Wilson points out one of her assistants Karli Moore who is in beginning her third year at Tarleton.

“Karli is a motivator! She’s out there encouraging the girls and she’s leading by example,” Wilson said. “After our first day, the girls were a little sluggish but a couple of drills and we are back at 100-percent motivation.”

Each day of camp is set up to improve a variety of skills with many different passing games of tag designed to improve team cohesion and also includes full-blown games which of course what the athletes are in camp to do.
