STEPHENVILLE (August 1, 2018) — Back-to-school weekend kicks off Sunday, Aug. 19, at Tarleton State University, when some 2,000 freshmen move into their home-away-from-home on the Stephenville campus.

Tarleton’s Move-In Experience for the Class of 2022 begins at 9 a.m. that Sunday and continues through Monday, Aug. 20. Expect cars and trucks full of everything from pillows and printers to table lamps and towels. Stores and restaurants will be busy.

Local residents should expect heavy traffic on Frey, Washington and McIlhaney streets as well as Harbin Drive and Ollie Avenue throughout Move-In.

Hundreds of volunteers will welcome Tarleton State University’s Class of 2022 to the Stephenville campus during its annual Move-In Experience, Aug. 19 and 20.

Rome Avenue and Sloan Street inside of campus will be closed for the duration of Move-In, and the portion of McIlhaney north of Washington will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20.

Volunteers will keep traffic moving along streets adjacent to the university and direct students to staging areas or residence halls. To help minimize traffic congestion, all freshmen have received a Move-In Guide with specific reporting times and locations.

“Our goal is to make the Move-In Experience as easy and hassle-free as possible for students, their parents and Stephenville residents,” said Robert Nimmo, executive director of Student Health and Wellness and Move-In organizer. “Some 2,000 volunteers from more than 40 groups and student organizations will put in long hours to ensure that Move-In is as smooth as possible. We appreciate the patience and understanding of Stephenville residents as students experience campus life and the surrounding community for the first time.”

New residents to Heritage, Legends, Legacy, Centennial, Honors and Traditions halls will report to the west side of Memorial Stadium off North Harbin Drive. Hunewell and Hunewell Annex residents will report to the corner of Ollie Avenue and Vanderbilt Street.

Volunteers will help unload vehicles and carry student belongings into residence halls.
