DUBLIN (August 13, 2018) – During Monday night’s monthly Dublin city council meeting, tax assessor, Jennifer Carey, spoke about the proposed tax rate for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. The proposed tax rate is $1.0202.

The council approved an action in authorizing the Dublin Economic Development Corporation to expend funds for the demolition of a structure at 120 E. Blackjack, owned by the Dublin Rotary Club as a DEDC project. There will be an asbestos check and if everything looks good, the demolition will start about the end of October.

A motion was also voiced to approve EDC to hire U.S. Sand and Gravel to tear down and remove the stage, wood floor and back wall of the city park building and EDC will pay for this project. The council decided to table the discussion.

Local, Charlie Bradberry, requested the council to agree to let him purchase and close an alley next to his property on Post Oak Street. The alleyway runs from the end of North Post Oak Street and it goes between the rodeo arena on Clinton Street. The motion was made to sell the property.

Chief of police, Bobby Mendez discussed building a kennel and concrete slab for his k-9 unit outside of the police department as well as an access to a sewer. A motion was passed for him to move forward with his plans.

Revisions were made to the Animal Ordinance. The law states that if an individual is feeding 20 cats in their front yard then they are responsible for those 20 cats and the law states that an individual is only allowed to own four. There was also a change in the length that dogs can be chained up because EMS would not able to get to them. A motion was made to adopt the changes.

A bid was awarded for the 2019-2020 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for administration services to Grant Works.

A motion was also made to move next month’s finance committee meeting and council meeting from Monday, Sep. 10 to Tuesday, Sep. 11.
