STEPHENVILLE – First-year head coach Chris Reisman has announced the Tarleton men’s basketball schedule for the 2018-19 season with the Texans opening in Missouri for the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

This season, Tarleton will play a 29-game schedule, including 16 home games and two road tournaments for four neutral site games. The schedule features 11 non-conference games and 18 Lone Star Conference matchups.

The Texans will travel to St. Joseph, Missouri to play Missouri Western on Nov. 3 and William Jewell on Nov. 4 as part of the Hall of Fame weekend. It’s the first time since 2001 that the Texans will open the regular season on the road.

“This schedule presents amazing opportunities but incredible challenges,” said Reisman “Opening up in St. Joseph, Mo. for the Hall of Fame Classic is a premier way to start the season against two very well-coached teams. It will give us a quick look at what we need to work on and get better at moving forward.

“I’ve heard great things about Coach Wicks and know he will make Missouri Western an immediate contender in the MIAA. Coach Holley at William Jewell is a legend in the profession and someone I have immense respect for in college basketball. Furthermore, we are excited to represent Tarleton State University in such a prestigious tournament.”

On Nov. 9-10, the Texans will return home for the annual Texan Tip-Off Classic with games against UC-Colorado Springs and University of the Southwest.

The week before Christmas, the Texans will head to Las Vegas to play in the Holiday Hoops Classic. The Texans will take on Le Moyne, who made the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last season, on Dec. 18 and then face Rollins on Dec. 19.

“Playing in Vegas has always been a team and fan favorite right before the Christmas break,” Reisman added. “We are excited to be going back this upcoming season and hope Texan Nation will make plans to attend. The Holiday Hoops Classic always brings with it fantastic competition and this year is no different. Lemoyne is coming off an Elite Eight appearance last season while Rollins made the Elite Eight two seasons ago and are a threat every year coming out of the Sunshine State Conference.”

Lone Star Conference action begins on Nov. 29 when the Texans host Texas A&M-Kingsville followed by Angelo State on Dec. 1. All LSC men’s basketball games are played on Thursday and Saturday this season.

To open up the new year, the Texans will play five straight LSC road games, beginning with a trip to Cameron on Jan. 3. The road trip will include games at MSU Texas, Texas A&M-Commerce, Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.

The schedule flips with five straight LSC home games for the Texans on the back half of conference schedule from Feb. 7-23. They’ll close out the regular season at UT Permian Basin on March 2.

“Lone Star Conference play cannot be simulated,” said Reisman. “What more could college basketball fans ask for then watching teams from this conference battle it out every night. Our league has had a representative in the Elite Eight in three of the last four seasons. No conference will prepare a team for the postseason better than the LSC.”

The Lone Star Conference Tournament returns to Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco on March 7-10.

Tarleton is coming off a 19-11 season and they’ll look to return to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time in program history.
