STEPHENVILLE – After wrapping up one of the all-time great careers in Tarleton Baseball history, Blake Adams is taking his career to the next level after signing with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association of Independent Baseball.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play professional baseball for a well-known organization,” said Adams. “I can’t thank the coaching staff at Tarleton enough for preparing me mentally and physically for the next chapter of my career.”

Adams is coming off arguably the greatest offensive seasons in program history, in which he became the first player in program history to be named to three different All-America teams. The senior from Longview hit .390 with 74 runs scored, 16 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs, and 69 RBI – all from the leadoff spot in the Tarleton lineup. He led the league in runs scored, home runs, slugging percentage (.781), and hit by pitches (25) while also ranking among the top three in the LSC in batting average, hits, and RBI. His 17 home runs were the second-most in a single season in school history and the most in a season for a Texan since the school joined the NCAA.

He was named the LSC Tournament Championship MVP after hitting .667 with six runs scored, seven RBI, and three home runs for the weekend. He is a two-time All-LSC First Team selection and a three-time All-Region honoree in his career. With Adams leading the charge, the Texans earned a trip to the fourth NCAA regional tournament in school history after winning the LSC Tournament Championship.

“We are extremely happy for Blake,” said head coach Bryan Conger. “He’s one of the all-time greats, both on the field and as a person to play in our program. He is extremely deserving and will no doubt take advantage of this opportunity. He’s the type of player that just needs to be given a chance and he will take care of the rest. Winnipeg is getting an A+ addition to their organization.”

Winnipeg has been the home to the Goldeyes since 1994 as a member of the Northern League and joined the American Association in 2011. Last year, Winnipeg went 62-38 en route to winning their division and the 2017 American Association Championship. The American Association is also the home of the Cleburne Railroaders, who welcomed Tarleton fans with a ‘Tarleton Night’ earlier this summer.

The American Association has been supplying talent to Major League Baseball consistently since 2002, including current major leaguers Junior Guerra (MIL), James Paxton (SEA), Chris Martin (TEX), and National League Cy Young Award Winner Max Scherzer (WAS).

Winnipeg is currently 36-47 this season and will play its next game tomorrow at home against Sioux City at 7 p.m.
