STEPHENVILLE – For the first time this season, all three fall sports will be in action for Tarleton as volleyball returns to Wisdom for Lone Star Conference play, football takes center stage at Homer Bryce Stadium against FCS Stephen F Austin, and cross country season begins at the East Texas Shootout.

Texan Football is 1-0 after opening the season with a 44-13 win over Delta State last Thursday night. It was the largest season-opening win since 2008 and the third largest margin to begin a campaign under head coach Todd Whitten. Tarleton boasted 448 yards of total offense, including 285 on the ground, while holding Delta State to just 326 total yards. Daniel McCants led the ground attack with 145 yards on 14 carries while Zimari Manning made noise through the air with 144 yards and two touchdowns on three receptions.

Manning’s 65-yard touchdown catch earned him national acclaim on ESPN’s Sportscenter and FS1’s First Things First. Defensively, Jai Edwards made quite the debut for Tarleton with a team-high eight tackles from the safety spot and a 76-yard interception return for a touchdown. Prince Robinson also had a pick-six in the opener. Tarleton heads to Nacogdoches to take the field against Southland Conference’s Stephen F Austin at 6 p.m.

Tarleton Football is looking to bring its all-time program record back to an even .500. The Texans currently boast an all-time mark of 473-480-33. Head coach Todd Whitten is also three wins shy of 60 in his Tarleton career. Only W.J. Wisdom (1920-35) has at least 60 wins as the head coach of the program.

Tarleton Volleyball comes back to Stephenville having pushed the all-time program record over .500 for the first time in 1978. Tarleton went 3-1 at the Dixie State Invitational in St. George, Utah last weekend and improved its record to 6-2 on the season. The TexAnns are ranked No. 24 in latest AVCA National Poll and have been nationally ranked for 18 consecutive weeks dating back to 2016. Tarleton will begin league play on Friday with a 6 p.m. rematch of last year’s LSC Tournament Championship match against Texas Woman’s in Wisdom Gym and then host No. 17 Texas A&M-Commerce at 2 p.m.

Tarleton Cross Country will get its season started as the men and women’s teams will head to Commerce for the East Texas Invitational Friday night. The women’s meet will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the men following at 6:45 p.m. Tarleton’s women are currently ranked sixth in the region by the USTFCCA and are the defending LSC Champions.
