STEPHENVILLE – No. 20 Tarleton Volleyball won its sixth straight match with a convincing 3-1 win over rival Angelo State on Tuesday in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.

The TexAnns remain atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 3-0 in league play and 9-2 overall.

The TexAnn offense had contributions across the board as four players registered double-digit kills: Adriana Dathury (13), Amber Strange (12), Lauren Kersey (11) and Tatyana Tuialii-Umi (10).

In the opening set, the TexAnns let a pair of late leads slip away while up 16-11 and 21-18. Angelo State (9-4, 2-1) rallied to even the score at 23 and eventually its only set win of the match at 26-24.

The TexAnns rebounded as well as anyone could with one of the more lopsided sets in program history. The TexAnns opened with a 17-2 lead, landing nine kills in the process. They also stepped up the intensity on the defensive end, blocking three consecutive Angelo State attacks and altering several more attempts in the process. The TexAnns held an 18-point lead in the set en route to a 25-8 victory to even the match.

In the ensuing third set, the TexAnns built an early 13-9 advantage before the Rambelles would climb their way back to even at 20-20. It was the defense this time that took control for the TexAnns, as Sofia Tonga’s block kept the TexAnn rally going for a 23-20 lead followed by Hannah McManus’ service ace. The TexAnns went on to win the set 25-20.

The TexAnns used another momentum-building run in the fourth set to pull away from the Rambelles. Leading 7-6, Tuialii-Umi’s kill started a stretch of seven straight points to go up 14-6.
Angelo State would get to within two points at 22-20 before the TexAnns went to Darthuy for three straight kills to end the match.

Blanca Izquierdo and Kayla Brannon, this week’s LSC Setter of the Week, each had a 20-assists night with Izquierdo recording 21 assists and Brannon 20.

Defensively, the TexAnns tallied 21 blocks led by the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week Hannah McManus with six. Sofia Tonga (5) Lauren Kersey (3) and Adriana Darthuy all posted at least three blocks. Adrianna Knutson led the TexAnns with 20 digs while Darthuy also had 13 digs for a double-double.

The TexAnns will travel to Canyon to play West Texas A&M for their first LSC road game of the season on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
