DUBLIN (September 11, 2018) – During Tuesday’s Dublin City Council meeting, the council adopted an ordinance setting the 2018-2019 tax rate.
The tax rate is $1.0202 and will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 7.99 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $42.80.
The council also approved the second reading for authorization of the Dublin Economic Development Corporation to expend funds for the demolition of a structure at 120 E. Blackjack, owned by the Dublin Rotary Club as a DEDC project. They found that there is asbestos in the structure and they are currently working on getting estimates for the removal of 830 square feet of flooring.
For the monthly staff reports, Cory James gave the updates for public works. They trimmed up the trees on three blocks on West Sheridan. They currently have several more trees to trim. They also tore down the building at railroad depot and fixed seven road cuts.
Erik Burleson gave updates for EMS. During the month of August, EMS had 33 transports and 19 county calls. They also had no county intercepts. They didn’t call for the county at any time during the month of August to intercept their ambulance. The LUCAS device also arrived last month which they had discussed during August’s meeting. The LUCAS device is an easy-to-use mechanical chest compression device that helps lifesaving teams around the world deliver high-quality, guideline-consistent chest compressions to sudden cardiac arrest patients; in the field, on the move and in the hospital. All EMS personnel has been certified to use the LUCAS device but they haven’t used it as of yet.
Brad Stanford gave updates on the airport. The airport is gearing up for their event Planes, Trains and Automobiles set for Oct. 6 at the Dublin Municipal Airport. The event is a double celebration. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Dublin Airport and the 90th anniversary of the Dublin Train Depot. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the expo will be at the airport. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., there will be a car show and Evil Roy at the airport. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be an ice cream social at the train depot. From 1 p.m., to 5 p.m., the public can tour museums and find photo ops and from 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a performance by Abbey Green Music at Things Celtic. The public will also get the chance to take demo rides and see the planes up close.
“It’s a nice, long day in Dublin bringing people in and I’m hoping this kicks off something pretty incredible,” Stanford said, “The southern region doesn’t have a light sport aircraft expo. You can go to Illinois, you can go to Florida, you can go to Oregon or California, but you can’t get anything here and that’s why I decided to do this particular thing.”
The council approved letting the Dublin Chamber have the park for the annual Fall Fiesta on October 27 as well as lifting the drinking ban for that day as long as they maintain security around the park.
The council adopted the water, wastewater and garbage ordinance and revised the due date from the 10th to the 16th of each month before a 10 percent penalty of the current bill is applied.
The council also adopted the 2018-2019 budget for the Economic Development Corporation, adopted the investment policy for the city of Dublin and adopted an ordinance creating the FY 2018-2019 budget for the city of Dublin.
The next city council meeting has been moved from Monday, Oct. 8 to Monday, Oct. 15 because of Columbus Day.
