STEPHENVILLE (September 20, 2018) — Fall performances for Tarleton State University’s Wind Ensemble begin the first week of October with Dr. David Robinson making his conducting debut in his new role as director of bands.

Set Tuesday, Oct. 2, the first concert — “Centennials” — kicks off the 100-year celebration of Tarleton bands on the concert stage. The first university ensemble performed on the Stephenville campus in 1919.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for students with a valid ID. Proceeds from the concert will benefit hurricane relief efforts by the American Red Cross.

Robinson will lead the wind ensemble in Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein in honor of the composer’s 100th birthday, Alfred Reed’s Armenian Dances, David Sampson’s Moving Parts, variations on America by Charles Ives, and Frank Ticheli’s Amazing Grace. The ensemble also will present Famishius Fantasticus by Michael Markowski, a comical piece paying homage to Saturday morning cartoons written in honor of Chuck Jones’s 100th birthday in 2012.
