STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that Prince Robinson of Texan Football and Hannah McManus of Tarleton Volleyball are the September recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award, presented by Stephenville Apartments.

The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.

Robinson has been a big addition to the Texan defense, which is holding opponents to just 33 points in the first three games of the season. With four interceptions in three games, Robinson leads the nation in picks with 1.3 per game. He took his first interception of the season for a touchdown against Delta State. Robinson has been a part of arguably one of the best defensive units at Tarleton in over a decade. Tarleton’s defense, which boasts the No. 4 rush defense and No. 5 scoring defense in the nation, has held opponents to below 100 rushing yards in three straight games for the first time since 2009. Led by Robinson’s two-interception game, Tarleton held WT to just 31 yards on the ground and 92 yards through the air. It was the first time since 2016 that Tarleton held an opposing team to less than 100 yards passing and the first time since Sept. 12, 2009, that Tarleton held a team under 100 yards rushing and passing in the same game. Robinson was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Buffs.

McManus has been dominant at the net for the opening month of her senior season. The middle blocker from Caldwell was twice awarded the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week award in September and led Tarleton to the top of the national statistics leaderboard in blocks per set last week. McManus currently leads the Lone Star Conference in blocks per set (1.39) and total blocks (79.0), which also has her ranked No. 7 and No. 5 in the nation, respectively. In addition to the blocks, McManus also has 111 kills on a .318 hit percentage with 10 service aces and 42 digs to lead Tarleton to a 14-2 record and a 6-0 start to Lone Star Conference play.

Once selected as student-athlete of the month, the recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the beginning of the following fall semester.
