STEPHENVILLE – Basketball season is less than a month away, which means madness is on the way.
Instead of the traditional Midnight Madness, Tarleton Athletics is starting Wisdom Madness, which will take place during homecoming week and feature both the Texan and TexAnn basketball teams representing the official start of basketball season. Wisdom Madness will take place on Thursday, October 18 with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. and the event starting at 7 p.m.
All of the Tarleton spirit groups – Cheer, Dance, Foul Play, Plowboys and Purple Poo – will be in attendance to make it a game day atmosphere. The spirit groups will also be throwing out over 300 Wisdom Madness dri-fit t-shirts throughout the evening.
The TexAnns will open the night with a full-court scrimmage followed by the Texans showcasing a dunk contest and then playing a full 20-minute scrimmage with officials.
The TexAnns are coming off a 20-12 season where they advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament for the second straight season. The TexAnns return seven members and four starters from last year’s squad, including a pair of WBCA All-Americans in Mackenzie Hailey and Katie Webster. McKinley Bostad returns for her senior year and was named All-Lone Star Conference last season.
“I’m excited about the upcoming Wisdom Madness,” said TexAnn Basketball head coach Misty Wilson. “I hope students and fans alike will bring the same enthusiasm and passion to Wisdom as they have for Midnight Madness in the past. I think the new format will make the event more accessible to community members and will give attendees the opportunity to get a more realistic and in-depth look at the Tarleton Basketball teams.”
The Texans went 19-11 last season and advanced to the Lone Star Conference tournament semifinals. The Texans return eight players and four starters from last year’s roster, including a pair of all-conference players in Josh Hawley and Corinthian Ramsey.
“We are so excited to participate in the first-ever Wisdom Madness,” said Texan Basketball head coach Chris Reisman. “I think it’s going to be a great environment that now allows a lot of the communities and families to come out and show support with the 7 p.m. start time. In addition, by pushing back to the 18th, I think we are now going to be able to show the fans more of what to expect from our team early in the season. With it also being homecoming week, I’m hoping to see our students along with the rest of Texan Nation in full force as we are able to showcase our 2018-19 team for the first time this season.”
