TexAnn volleyball is carrying a 13-game win streak into the home weekend

AT A GLANCE
Lone Star Conference-leading Tarleton returns home riding a season-long 13-game win streak as the No. 19 TexAnns host a pair of LSC matches against UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico. Tarleton will host UTPB on tonight, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. followed by WNMU on Saturday at 2 p.m.

PROMOTIONS
Friday night, Tarleton Athletics will hand out 200 free tacos before the game, courtesy of Taco Casa. Saturday’s match is a pink out, where fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness month.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Tarleton moved up two spots to No. 17 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Tarleton is one of two Lone Star Conference schools in the top 25, joining Texas A&M-Commerce who is ranked 21st. Tarleton has been ranked in every poll since the final ranking of the 2016 season, which is 22 consecutive weeks in the national spotlight.

RAFFLE TO BENEFIT SUSAN G. KOMEN
Tarleton Volleyball is doing its part to raise funds in support of breast cancer research by hosting a month-long raffle throughout October. The tickets cost $1 each. One ticket will be drawn at random prior to each Tarleton home game in the month of October. The winner will be contacted prior to the match and given the chance to pick one of two TexAnn Volleyball Prize Packages. Prize Package No. 1 will consist of an autographed volleyball, a T-Shirt, and a coupon for two free ice creams at the Blue Bell Ice Cream stand inside Wisdom Gym during the match. Prize Package No. 2 will be a T-Shirt and allow the winner the opportunity to sit on the TexAnn bench during the match, as well as lead-off the match with a ceremonial ‘first serve’. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket at any other time can contact a Tarleton Volleyball player or email assistant coach Katie Hoekman at hoekman@tarleton.edu.

ABOUT TARLETON
Tarleton enters the weekend leading the way in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 16-2 record overall and an 8-0 mark in the league. Tarleton is also among the national leaders in blocks per set (2.98) and the conference leader in hit percentage (.249). Adriana Darthuy leads the team with 193 kills while Hannah McManus, a recent two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team and conference with 1.44 blocks per set. Blanca Izquierdo is leading the team with 363 assists.

DIGGING FOR A MILESTONE
Adrianna Knutson, Tarleton’s senior libero, is currently chasing down the all-time mark for digs at Tarleton State University. Knutson enters this weekend with 1,706 career digs and recently passed Emily Klein (1,656) for No. 2 in program history. She is 142 digs away from passing Shea McBrearty (1,847) for the all-time lead.

CRACKING THE TARLETON TOP 10
Hannah McManus is making her own history at Tarleton as the senior middle blocker enters the weekend having recently passed Shay Gracy for the eighth-most total blocks in program history (328) and is now tied with Nicole Conques for seventh all time. She is also third all-time in assisted blocks with 270. She will pass Kenya Alexander for second all-time in assisted blocks with three more.

SERIES HISTORY: UT PERMIAN BASIN
Tarleton and UT Permian Basin are meeting for the 14th time in program history since they first played in 2004. Tarleton leads the all-time series at 8-5 and have won five straight against the Falcons.

SERIES HISTORY: WESTERN NEW MEXICO
Tarleton and Western New Mexico are meeting for the 16th time in program history since they first squared off in 1988. The Mustang hold the series lead at 8-7, but the TexAnns have controlled the series for the last four years, having won seven straight matches.
