STEPHENVILLE (October 7, 2018) – With Halloween around the corner, the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for the annual Safe Trick ‘R Treat event that is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Downtown Square and Plaza.

The Safe Trick ‘R Treat event will feature a costume contest with five age groups: zero to one-years-old; two to three-years-old; four to seven-years-old; eight to 12-years-old and 13 to 16-years-old. There will also be five prizes per age group: funniest, cutest, scariest, most creative and best homemade costume, pus three prizes for the best groups. The costume contest line up will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the plaza area with judging starting at 6 p.m.

Treat stations sponsored by Chamber member businesses and organizations will be set up along the sidewalks around the Downtown Square. There will also be a FUN ZONE featuring games and activities for the children that are being coordinated by Timber Ridge Church.

Businesses and organizations can also sponsor the event. There are four levels of sponsorship: The Mummy of All Sponsors for $1,000; Scarecrow Sponsorship for $5,000; Pumpkin Sponsorship for $250 and a Candy Corn Sponsorship for $100.

More than 3,000 kids are expected to attend this year. Brittney Cullhane, the events and resource specialist for the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce, said that families love the event.

“We’ve always gotten a really good response from it. The people enjoy it, that they don’t have to go house to house and it’s a safe trick or treat that they can come down and do, especially with younger kids,” Cullhane said.

Cullhane also would like to invite more people to come to the event.

“We always like more people,” she added.
