Cross Country trio claims LSC weekly awards

STEPHENVILLE – Esmeralda Fuentes, Fabion Trevino and Meagan Riley were named Lone Star Conference Runners of the Week for their performances last Friday at the East Texas Shootout.

Esmeralda Fuentes earned Lone Star Conference Female Runner of the Week after her second-place finish last weekend. Fuentes had a strong season debut at the East Texas Shootout last Friday placing second overall running a time of 22:36.40 in the 6,000-meters. The junior from Hays High School helped lead the TexAnns to their first team victory of the season. Fuentes also helped the TexAnns move up to eighth in the latest USTFCCCA regional rankings in the South Central Region.

Fabion Trevino received Lone Star Conference Male Freshman Runner of the Week. Trevino had his best performance of the season last Friday at the East Texas Shootout placing seventh overall running a season-best time of 26:00.2. The freshman from North Mesquite High School helped the Texans finish first-place overall and remain in the USTFCCCA regional rankings in the South Central Region.

Meagan Riley was named Lone Star Conference Female Freshman Runner of the Week. Riley had her best race of the season at the East Texas Shootout last Friday. The freshman from Llano High School finished seventh overall while running her season-best time of 23:08.10, which is 1:09.90 faster than her previous best. Riley helped the TexAnns clinch their first season victory as a team and move up in the USTFCCCA regional rankings in the South Central Region to ninth.

This is the first Lone Star Conference weekly award received by Fabion Trevino and second by Esmeralda Fuentes and Meagan Riley.

Tarleton Cross Country will head to San Angelo for the ASU Blue/Gold Classic on October 23.
