It’s hard to imagine Tarleton not getting some love from the Lone Star Conference this week as three Texan offensive players ranked themselves fourth overall nationwide in passing, rushing and receiving.
Strangely enough, Ben Holmes, Xavier Turner and Zamari Manning all had game performances that ranked them fourth in each of their respective positions.
Junior quarterback Holmes was on the practice squad last year before earning the starting spot this season, and against Texas A&M Kingsville he threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Two of Holmes’ TD tosses were for 79 and 59 yards. Holmes also added 82 yards on the ground via nine carries.
Turner is a senior running back who ripped off four straight touchdowns against Kingsville scoring on runs of 5, 66, 18 and 5-yards and gaining 164 yards on the night. Making Turner’s numbers even more eye-popping is he carried the ball only ten times.

Junior wideout Manning was the only Texan receiver with more than one catch as he gathered in six catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. The 6-2 junior who plays several inches taller and made a couple of the top circus catches on the night.
The numbers put up this week were just a little over the average of a 7-0 football team that took the most significant jump the NCAA D2 polls last week to number nine. Tarleton is averaging 288 yards a game on the ground and 234 yards passing.
The Texan defense is just freak-nasty allowing under 100 yards per game and just 2.5-yards per carrying. Things don’t get much better for opponents through the air as Tarleton establishes a no-fly-zone that’s resulted in 11 interceptions and only 5.84 yards per attempt.
