STEPHENVILLE – Xavier Turner only needed 10 carries to earn his second consecutive Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week award after his record-tying performance against Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night.

Turner continued to dominate the ground game as the senior from Birdville tied the school record with four non-passing touchdowns in a single game Saturday night. Turner’s big night lifted No. 9 Tarleton past Texas A&M-Kingsville 59-21 for their seventh straight victory.

He was explosive every time he touched the ball as it only took 10 carries for him to rack up 164 rushing yards and his four touchdowns. All of Turner’s touchdowns came in consecutive order for the Texans as he turned a 21-14 game with 4:20 left in the opening half into a 49-14 lead with 6:34 left in the third quarter. It was Turner’s third consecutive 100-yard rushing performance.

Turner joins RB Gaylon Bowser (1987), QB Steve Kelly (2001), RB Derrick Ross (2004), WR Dustin Pleasant (2006), WR Le’Nard Meyers (2014) as the only players in program history to score four non-passing touchdowns in a single game. Kelly totaled six touchdowns in his Oct. 13, 2001 performance when the QB ran for three, caught one, and threw for two. Kelly and Turner, who accomplished the feat last year, are the only two players in program history to throw, catch and rush for a touchdown in a single game.

This is the fourth career offensive award for Turner and the second this season.

Turner and the No. 8 Texans will head to Wichita Falls Saturday night at 7 p.m. for Texan Football’s first-ever top-10 showdown against No. 10 MSU Texas with a share of the LSC Championship on the line.
