STEPHENVILLE (October 25, 2018) – The Faith Lutheran Church and School in Stephenville are hosting their 27th annual FaithFest on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church Family Center located at 3000 NW Loop.

Adult admission is $10, children admission for ages four to 10 is $5 and children under three eat for free.

The FaithFest celebrates the German/European heritage by serving authentic food, family heirlooms and great music.

According to faithlutheranstephenville.com, FaithFest began as an outdoor celebration in 1991 when Faith Lutheran Church was located on St. Peter Street in Stephenville. Its original purpose was to raise money for the building when the present-day facility was a distant dream. Booths were set up that sold all sorts of German foods. There were also craft booths, the Leastiger Besitz Verkauf (White Elephant Sale), games for the kids, and the Weihnachten (Christmas) Market, which displayed and sold nativity scenes, Christmas ornaments and other holiday items.

Over the years, FaithFest has evolved and now the event is about celebrating the heritage, remembering the Reformation and enjoying German food, music and Norwegian dancers. The Heritage Room contains German, Scandinavian and other European artifacts. They also have a silent auction where the proceeds are donated to a variety of organizations.

Emily Lansmon, the director of family life ministries at the Faith Lutheran Church said that the event is a good time.

“It’s mostly focused around food. We mostly just eat and laugh together for a few hours and so we eat a bunch of German food. There are some German heritage items that are set up so you can look at our history. We’ve got German music playing [also] so you can hear our history, taste our history and look at it too and then just hang out and eat good food,” Lansmon said.

Lansmon said that the thing people enjoy most about the FaithFest is the food.

“We’ve got schnitzel and bratwurst, authentic German sauerkraut, potato salad and red cabbage,” Lansmon said. “I think also just the fellowship is important, just the time we get to hang out together.”

Last year, around 260 people attend the FaithFest. Lansmon said she expects the same amount of people to come to the event this year as well, but that anyone is welcome to come.

“It’s a really welcome atmosphere. It’s a fun time. There are no expectations. There’s nothing you gotta do, just show up and eat a lot of food,” Lansmon said.
