Homemade pralines are $1 a bag.

All donations and income from the Mexican Supper are given to local charities and outreach needs.

Terri Binkley, the Parish Administrator at St. Luke’s, explained more about the history of the Mexican Supper.

“From what I’ve been told and heard over the 10 years I have been here was that it started to raise money for the church to buy vestments for the altar. The church didn’t have the money so the ladies got together and decided to do a Mexican Supper to raise money. They would have people prepare stuff at home then bring it in and have a dinner and it would be done for two nights,” Binkley said.

Over the years, the Mexican Supper has changed and grown exponentially. Now, the supper raises money to put back into the community to help organizations and groups.

“We do one day, Election Day. It is a day that is easy to remember and we can cast our votes, come eat, fellowship and raise money to put back into a community of such wonderful people,” Binkley said. “We have many people from St. Luke’s that make this such a successful event. We make our chili, beans, salsa, enchiladas—don’t forget the egg on top—and our famous pralines and all that starts in the very early hours of the morning on the day of the event and we go until everything is cleaned up and put back late in the night.”

With the Mexican Supper, St. Luke’s has been able to support many organizations like the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) the Kiwanis Club Rainbow Room, Stephenville School Supply Project, St. Luke’s Food Pantry and Grace Place Ministries. They have also been able to support groups like Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erath County and Erath County Humane Society.

Last year, the Mexican Supper raised just over $7,000. This year, Binkley said they would like to raise over $10,000.

“We love to support ministries and organizations that don’t seem to draw a lot of attention,” Binkley said. “Our community is so giving and so supportive of so many organizations and we like to look at the ones that sometimes fly under the radar.”

Binkley added that if you have never been to one of these dinners, she encourages you to “come and see what an amazing event this is.”

“I can’t say enough about our community and the support that is shown through this.  Not only do you get great food, but you help raise money for great needs in our area,” Binkley added.

Lunch delivery is available. Take out is available as well for both the lunch and dinner. Call the church to place your order at 254-968-6949.
