TexAnns open season with 19-point rout over Rogers State

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Women’s Basketball opened its season with a 65-46 rout over Rogers State in the Tip-Off Classic in Wisdom Gym.

Destiney Winkfield led all scorers with 12 points while Kaylee Allen added 11 points and Katie Webster posted 10 points.

The TexAnns shot 41 percent from the floor and their defense held Rogers State to a 36 percent clip and forced 22 turnovers that resulted in 16 Tarleton points.

After trailing 13-12 through the first quarter, Tarleton outscored Rogers State 53-33 in the final three quarters.

The TexAnns went on a 10-0 run early in the second quarter to take the lead and never trailed again. Kylie Collins, who had five points in the game, drilled a 3-pointer and Webster had a pair of buckets during the run. The TexAnns led 38-26 at the break on Winkfield’s three at the top of the key to beat the buzzer.

Tarleton held Rogers State to only seven points in the third quarter while the TexAnns scored the first five points of the half in just two minutes of play to go up by 17.

The TexAnns put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to open the period and build a 26-point advantage en route to the victory.

Mackenzie Hailey and McKinley Bostad each posted seven points, while Lucy Benson (6), Kandyn Faurie (3), Nina Alvarez (2) and Hannah Hyde (2) rounded out the TexAnn scoring efforts.

Tarleton will take on St. Mary’s on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. in Wisdom Gym to close out the Tip-Off Classic.
