Texans finish strong to top Jarvis Christian

The Texans improved to 4-1 on the season as they shot 51 percent from the floor and drilled eight 3-pointers in the contest.

Jarvis Christian built an early 12-0 lead but the Texans came storming back with eight straight points, including three dunks from Clashon Gaffney and Hawley. Tarleton took its first lead of the game at 29-24 on a 12-0 run when Preston Enloe and Brandon Goldsmith drained back-to-back 3’s.

The Texans led 36-31 on the break on Hawley’s tip-in right before the buzzer.

Hawley picked up where he left off in the second half, scoring five of the Texans’ first eight points to build a double-digit lead. The run was highlighted by a double alley-oop from Ramsey to Randall Broddie to Hawley who finished with a two-handed slam. Hawley recorded his third double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks.

Jarvis Christian came back to take a 55-48 lead with 10:49 remaining. Enloe got the Texan offense rolling again with his third 3-pointer of the game that started an 11-3 run to regain the lead. The Bulldogs stayed in upset mode as the went back on top 64-61. Jesse Hill gave the Texans the final lead of the game with a layup, as the senior also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in his first start of the season.

The Texans locked in on defense and scored 20 points in the final four minutes and held Jarvis Christian to only seven to take the win at home.

Tarleton’s bench provided a spark offensively with 50 points as Ramsey scored his season high with 23 and Enloe had 14 points on four 3-pointers. Clashon Gaffney added six points, Brandon Goldsmith scored five and Jaraan Lands had two.

Tarleton will have the next 10 days off before they return to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
