No. 6 Texans head to Minnesota for historic Super Region 4 Finals against No. 1 Mavericks

THE GAME
History is being made every time the Texans take the field in 2018 and Saturday afternoon will be no different as No. 6 Tarleton squares off with No. 1 Minnesota State Saturday at 12 p.m. CT in the Super Region 4 Finals at Blakeslee Stadium in Mankato.

Tickets range from $15 for reserved seating down to $3 for college student general admission. Adult general admission is $10 while youth and senior citizens are $5. NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Tarleton Football remains among the top 10 football programs in the nation according to the most recent American Football Coaches Association poll. The Texans entered the postseason ranked No. 6 in the nation, which ties the all-time high in Tarleton’s NCAA history. The Texans will square off with No. 1-ranked Minnesota State in a national top-10 showdown.

ABOUT THE TEXANS
Tarleton is in the midst of the greatest season in program history as the Texans have secured the most wins in a single season in program history (12) and have outscored the last four opponents 209-31, including two consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1964. The Texans rank among the top 15 in the nation in both scoring offense (47.9) and scoring defense (16.8), as well as No. 3 in the nation in rushing offense (321.8) and No. 6 in rushing defense (80.4). Xavier Turner and Daniel McCants have been the most potent rushing tandem in the history of Texan Football. The Texan twosome are the first teammates in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season or otherwise. Turner leads the ground game with 1,391 yards on 206 carries with 22 touchdowns while McCants has rushed for 1,124 yards on 152 rushes with eight touchdowns. Those two helped Tarleton set a single-season rushing record with 3,862 rushing yards.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
Minnesota State also moved to 12-0 after a 24-10 win over Colorado State-Pueblo last weekend. It was the Mavericks’ first game of the postseason after earning a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the region. As a team, the Mavericks average 43.1 points per game while holding opponents to just 15.5 points per game. RB Nate Gunn leads the offense on the ground with 1,295 yards and 20 touchdowns. QB Ryan Schlichte has thrown for 1,760 yards and 17 touchdowns. Alex Goettl leads the defense with 77 tackles, including 13.0 for a loss and 4.5 sacks.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
