STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton put together its top offensive night of the season Wednesday in Wisdom Gym as the TexAnns pounded Arlington Baptist 98-66 for their sixth win over the first eight games.

The opening quarter was a shootout between the TexAnns and Patriots as Arlington Baptist kept it a one-possession game into the final two and a half minutes of the period. But with Tarleton leading by three, the TexAnn bench took the bull by the horns and drilled back-to-back triples to extend the Tarleton lead out to nine heading into the final minute of the period. Nina Alvarez and Destiney Winkfield, who each finished with career-high scoring performances, scored the final Tarleton points of the quarter.

After the Patriots pulled within seven entering the second quarter, Tarleton opened the new frame on a 9-0 surge to extend its lead out to double digits. Kaylee Allen started the run while Katie Webster and Mackenzie Hailey accounted for the next seven points.

Arlington Baptist pulled the game within 10 with four minutes left in the half but Hailey answered back with an old-fashioned three-point play that started a 15-2 Tarleton run over the rest of the half. Tarleton went into halftime leading 56-33. Tarleton outscored the Patriots 24-8 in the second quarter.

Tarleton continued to pour it on with 42 more second-half points to bring home the bacon in the form of its largest win since beating Arlington Baptist 104-52 on Dec. 18, 2017.

The TexAnns had five players score in double digits, including Alvarez and Winkfield off the bench with career-high performances. Alvarez scored 12 while Winkfield added 11. The duo combined to shoot 8-13 off the bench for the game and each had four assists.

Hailey led all scorers with 17 points while Allen scored 16 and Webster chipped in 10. McKinley Bostad filled up the stat sheet in a near-triple-double performance with nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Marissa Escamilla (9), Hannah Hyde (1), Lucy Benson (2), Kylie Collins (3), and Kandyn Faurie – who also had a new career high with eight points – rounded out the scoring. For Hailey, the 17-point performance marked the 60th double-figure scoring performance of her career.

Tarleton will take time off due to finals before getting back to action on Friday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in Austin against St. Edward’s.
