DeLeon quarterback Kevin Yeager has announced he will be accepting a scholarship from the University of Incarnate Word to play football next season.
Yeager, a four-year starter at quarterback, led the Bearcats into the playoffs throughout his high school career including this year where DeLeon bowed out in the regional championship.
Yeager has glittering numbers when it comes to statistics throwing for 11,769 yards on 715-1,162 passing for 137 touchdowns. Yeager also averaged 4.7 yards per
Incarnate Word is on the upswing under new coach Eric Morris who turned a 1-10 team into a 6-4 co-conference champion. The Cardinals who play in the Southland Conference were ranked 24th and made the playoff this year.
Yeager will be looking to unseat current starter Jon Copeland who as a freshman set UIS’s single-season passing record with 2,984 yards.
Copeland’s 22 passing TDs and 208 completions were also UIW records.
Yeager was reported to have entertained several offers including a full-ride to Sam Houston State before settling on UIW.
