TexAnn trio combines for 57 points as Tarleton routs MSU Texas on the road

WICHITA FALLS – McKinley Bostad, Mackenzie Hailey, and Katie Webster combined for 57 points as Tarleton led from start to finish to top MSU Texas, 80-68, at D.L. Ligon Colesium.

The TexAnns (9-3, 2-2) shot 52 percent from the floor and made 24 free throws to down the Mustangs on the road. It’s the second straight 20-point game for Hailey, who also had a team-leading eight rebounds and three steals, and the second 20-point effort in three games for Bostad, who registered six rebounds and a game-high five assists. It’s also the fourth time in six games that the TexAnn offense has scored at least 80 points, going 5-1 in that span.

The TexAnns opened with a 5-0 run to start the game on a pair of buckets from Hailey and never slowed down. Bostad followed with eight straight points including two 3-pointers to go up 17-9. The TexAnns led 23-16 after the opening quarter.

The lead grew to double digits in the second quarter behind a 6-0 TexAnn run to lead 30-20. Bostad, who drilled three 3-pointers in the first half, followed with another long ball to put the TexAnns up 36-25. After another 23-point quarter, Tarleton led 46-23 at the break with Bostad scoring 17 points.

Free throws played a part for both teams in the game, as the TexAnns went 24-34 at the line and the Mustangs went 17-33. In the third quarter, seven of Tarleton’s 17 points came at the free throw line. Katie Webster, who had 11 points and six rebounds in the game, scored seven of her points at the line. The TexAnns and Mustangs matched each other with 17 points in the third quarter, giving the TexAnns a 63-49 lead heading into the final frame.

Lucy Benson gave Tarleton a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter at 73-53, the largest lead of the game with four minutes to go. Benson had four points and four rebounds off the bench.

Kaylee Allen had six points, while Kylie Collins added five points, giving the TexAnn starting lineup 68 of the 80 points. Nina Alvarez scored four points, and Destiney Winkfield and Kandyn Faurie each had two points.

Tarleton will wrap up a three-game conference road trip with a matchup at Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
