Abilene man arrested for online solicitation of a minor

DUBLIN (January 8, 2019) – Billy Sherman was taken into custody and booked into the Erath County Jail on Monday, January 7, by the Dublin Police Department for a warrant stemming from a case out of Abilene.

According to Dublin Police Chief, Bobby Mendez, Dublin PD was made aware that a 60-year-old, later identified by Dublin PD as Billy Sherman of Abilene, was communicating with a 15-year-old juvenile from Dublin on December 15, 2018. Mendez said Sherman requested sexually explicit photographs from the 15-year-old via social media sites.

During the investigation, it was discovered by Dublin PD that Sherman had communicated with the 15-year-old juvenile in both text messages communication as well as voice communication in a sexually explicit manner.

On December 27, 2018, with the assistance of the Abilene Police Department Cyber Crimes Unit, investigators took Billy Sherman into custody in Abilene and booked him into the Taylor County Jail on charges of Online Solicitation of a Minor. On Monday, January 7, Sherman was transported to the Erath County Jail where he is currently being held on $30,000 bond.
