Friday’s Coaches for the Cure Honeybee basketball game against Glen Rose is about helping benefit a Stephenville resident Michelle Richardson who is fighting an aggressive form of breast cancer known as ‘invasive ductal carcinoma”.

Richardson is the mother of three children who have attended Stephenville high school including Cassee Parry a senior, 2011 SHS graduate Army SGT Ryan Eppers and 2014 graduate Chelcie Parry. She is also a grandmother (Mimsy) to Rowdy and Autumn Eppers.

The 43-year-old is suffering from the early forms of invasive ductal carcinoma which has infiltrated her breast tissue. Doctors have placed the cancer at 2B which is an early stage.

While the tumor they found is 1.5 inches in size, tests show that the cancer has not reached Richardson’s lymph nodes

Richardson is a familiar face to many SHS parents and students with children of her own having attended school I Stephenville and through her working in the school lunchroom for two years and as a school bus aide.

“I’m very honored at being chosen,” Richardson said in an email.

While Richardson does have a good prognosis she has only completed four of 12 round of treatments and will also have to do four additional round of another chemo drug duo — and then there’s still a surgery to come.

To help out residents are asked to donate baked goods which will be auctioned off “live” during halftime of the Bees game and by silent auction throughout the evening.

According to Bees assistant coach Kristi Mayes, “The TOTS will be performing after the Honeybee game and during halftime of the Jacket game. If you haven’t witnessed the little guys perform, it’s sure to be a treat. Our choir will be singing the National Anthem and we will have a short presentation honoring Michelle directly after the Honeybee game.
