STEPHENVILLE – A five-minute surge that saw Tarleton outscore UT Permian Basin 12-0 late in the fourth quarter is exactly what the TexAnns needed to get by a pesky Falcon team in Wisdom Gym Thursday night. Tarleton earned its 12th win of the season with a 62-53 victory.

McKinley Bostad had 17 of Tarleton’s 30 first-half points.

Over the first half, it was the McKinley Bostad show as the senior guard was 6-10 shooting from the floor for 17 of Tarleton’s 30 points while the Falcons were hanging around in a 30-28 contest. In the opening two quarters, UTPB shot .464 from the floor while the TexAnns were just .370.

In the new half, the game was tied through the first six minutes before Kandyn Faurie connected on a fadeaway jumper in front of the TexAnn bench to put Tarleton up 39-37 and start a 6-2 run over the final 3:22 to send Tarleton into the fourth holding a 43-39 edge.

The Falcons stuck around by opening the final quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 50-47 lead with 5:40 to play, but a Katie Webster layup turned the game around. Webster’s bucket started the game-clinching 12-0 Tarleton run. Over that span, Tarleton held UT Permian Basin to 0-10 shooting from the floor and built a 59-50 lead en route to the win.

Bostad finished the game with 27 points, which tied a career high, on 8-17 shooting from the floor and 9-11 shooting at the free throw line. Webster recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Kaylee Allen (7), Mackenzie Hailey (6), and Nina Alvarez (5) combined for 18 more Tarleton points. Destiney Winkfield, Hannah Hyde, and Faurie each had two points to round out the scoring.

Tarleton will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Wisdom Gym against Western New Mexico.
