A furious seventh-inning rally falls short for Tarleton as the Texans fell 5-4 to Arkansas-Fort Smith in the third game of the series and first of two on Sunday afternoon.

UAFS struck first with a two-run first inning on two different RBI singles. The Lions tacked on another in the second when an RBI single to shortstop allowed a leadoff triple to come across for a 3-0 lead after two.

Neither team cracked the run column over the next three innings, but UAFS added two insurance runs in the sixth – which proved to be too much for Tarleton to overcome in the end.

Tarleton came to life in the seventh, beginning with a leadoff single from Tyler Fowler. Colby Selzter and Blake Burns followed up with a walk and a single to load the bases and force UAFS into the bullpen.

After a strikeout, Tyler Parker turned a single into three runs as two RBI came in to score and a third run crossed on an error from the outfield that allowed Parker to reach third base. Parker came in to make it a 5-4 game on a sacrifice fly by Sam Scarborough.

Jordan Parker kept things going with a double, but was thrown out at third to end the game.

Fowler and Tyler Parker each had two hits while Jacob Walker, Burns, and Jordan Parker had one each to round out the seven-hit effort. Chris Reed took the loss with a one-inning start before giving way to Hunter Thomas out of the bullpen for 4.1 innings of work. Case Rolen recorded the final two outs for Tarleton.
Game 2: UAFS 14, Tarleton 3

UAFS scored six runs over the first two innings and tacked on eight more in the fifth en route to handing Tarleton a 14-3 loss in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

The Lions scored their 14 runs over the first five innings before Tarleton scored three on a Zach Mesa RBI double and a two-RBI single from Jordan Parker in the top of the sixth to get Tarleton on the board.

Zach Svensson started and took the loss while Connor Flanagan, Ligon West, and Mitchell Morris pitched in relief.

Tarleton will make its home debut next weekend with a four-game series against Colorado-Colorado Springs, beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
