Track & Field wraps up final day at LSC Indoor Championships

LUBBOCK – Tarleton Track and Field wraps up final day at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships with two medals and 17 top-10 finishes.

Esmeralda Fuentes and Justin Botello were the top individual finisher for Tarleton on day two at the LSC Indoor Championships. Fuentes finished in third place in the women’s mile, running a time of 5:13.40. Botello placed third in the men’s mile, running a season best time of 4:21.82.

The Texans and TexAnns ran season best in the 4×400-meter relay, both placing fourth overall. The Texans relay team that consisted of Zachary Martinez, Anterius Brown, Brandon McKissick and Colton Troutman ran a 3:15.56. The TexAnns relay team, Kylee Ponder, Arianna Stegall, Kamyrnn Schiller and Jessica Ramirez finished in a time of 3:53.77.

The distance races, the TexAnns had five top-10 finishers. In the women’s mile, Gretzel Jimenez (5:20.63) and Gwyneth Garcia (5:28.04) placed sixth and ninth. In the women’s 3,000-meters, Esmeralda Fuentes (10:48.04) finished fifth and Meagan Riley (10:59.07) came in 10th. On the men’s side, the Texans had five top-10 finishes. In the 3,000-meters, Jarred Elizondo lead the pack of Texans placing sixth with a time of 8:57.55. Nicholas Mosqueda (8:57.97), Kyle Doty (8:59.46) and Justin Botello (9:01.18) finished in seventh, eighth and 10thplace.

In the field events, the Texans had three top-10 finishers in the high jump. Gentrye Munden placed sixth overall clearing a height of 5′ 1″. Chandee Bachmeyer and Emily Castleberry placed seventh and ninth with jumps of 5′ 1″.

In the hurdles and sprints, the Texans had two top-10 finishes. Cornelius Coleman placed fifth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 8.37. Jamel Anderson finished eighth in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00.

The Texans as a team finished fifth overall with 47 total points. The TexAnns as a team placed sixth overall with 46.5 points.
