STEPHENVILLE (February 18, 2019) — Tarleton State University’s annual gala Saturday featured awards to past students and friends of the university, but the overarching sentiment of the event was one of generosity.

The estate of Leveta Hord was recognized for a bequeath of more than $230,000. The donation will fund a scholarship created in 2013 for nursing students.

Hord’s niece, Amanda Hord Treece, was on hand at the gala to represent her aunt’s estate.

“I was excited to be invited to such an event,” she said of her first experience at the annual celebration.

Treece, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tarleton, is a credit analyst for Members Trust Federal Credit Union in Stephenville.

She said her aunt treasured learning above all else.

“She valued education and she really understood how important the nursing program is, not just to students working toward their degrees, but to patients who need quality care.”

Tarleton was the beneficiary of another sizable donation in 2018 when Bill and Marsha Rickett donated $200,000. The gift will go toward two areas of the new Fort Worth campus, the Bill and Marsha Rickett Library and Student Commons.
