Gaffney named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week

The Lone Star Conference has named Clashon Gaffney its Defensive Player of the Week after guiding Tarleton to a pair of road wins to close out the regular season.

Gaffney led the Texan defense with 9.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and four total blocks in a pair of road wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. Gaffney only averaged 14.5 minutes per game, but played a big factor on both ends of the court.

Gaffney had eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds to go with two blocks in 15 minutes in a 22-point win over Western New Mexico. Gaffney helped limit the Mustangs to 31.5 percent shooting.

In just 14 minutes against UT Permian Basin, Gaffney had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in a 12-point win. Gaffney and the Texans limited the Falcons to just 69 points on the day, which came in the game after the Falcons scored 102 points at home and was held to 18 points under their season average.

It’s the first career LSC weekly award for the Sophomore forward from Clarksville, Texas. Gaffney because the third Texan to receive LSC Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining forwards Josh Hawley (two times) and Jesse Hill.

Gaffney and the Texans finished the regular season 20-9 overall and 10-8 in the LSC. The Texans earned the No. 5 seed for the LSC Tournament and will take on No. 4 Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m. at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
