The #1 Honeybees struggled with controlling the ball offensively with a gusty wind in the first half of play against the Bridgeport Sissies while scoring two goals and adding an insurance score in the second half for a 3-0 Area Championship win Tuesday in Mineral Wells.

Stephenville (20-1-2) now turns its attention to Kennedale (15-9-1) who defeated Hirschi 1-0 and topped Decatur 7-0 in the bi-district round. The Bees will match up against Kennedale in a 3 PM game Friday in Aledo with admission $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Against the Sissies, the Bees closed down Bridgeport’s offense in the first half but had a problem with the wind at their backs which caused several “over-kick” as the ball sailed with the win and Stephenville couldn’t catch up.
Beatris Chavarria had the quickest foot in a scrim of players following a missed header attempt off a corner kick and booted home the goal in heavy traffic with 26:35 left in the first half. It was so tight in front of the goal fans had to wait to see who the Bees were congratulating to figure out who scored.

With the ice broken, Stephenville began a little more deliberate attack and at the 4:11 mark sophomore Abby Harrison scored the first varsity goal of her career to give the Bees a 2-0 cushion.
Several non-calls on very obvious fouls got under the skin of Coach Casey Weil who got yellow-carded for protesting a bit too strongly just as the first half expired.
While the Bees’ defense continued to shut down Bridgeport’s attack, the Stephenville offense kept up the pressure but also played things close to the vest and didn’t reveal all the offensive wrinkles in its arsenal.
Ciara Johnston’s second-half goal put the game beyond the reach of the Sissies.
