STEPHENVILLE (April 16, 2019) – If you’re like most, you grab a quick cup of coffee or a piece of fruit or nothing as you rush out the door every morning and are then hungry until lunch. Luckily, tomorrow doesn’t have to look that way – the 2019 class of Leadership Stephenville is hosting a Break for Burritos fundraising event at the Stephenville City Park Wednesday.

The group is raising money to help combat hunger in Erath County, and no, not your self-imposed fasting. Leadership Stephenville Class of 2019 is working with Meals on Wheels of Erath County to help get daily meals to the 160 senior and homebound Erath County residents who qualify for the food delivery service.

“For the class project, Leadership Stephenville Class of 2019 decided to raise money for Meals on Wheels of Erath County after researching the multitude of non-profit organizations in our county,” said 2019 Class President Dr. Julie Howell.  “Meals on Wheels lost some funding they had received for the last few years, so we felt this would be a great time for us to step in and help them.  They serve over 160 seniors each week in Erath County and because of that we feel this organization is crucial for the betterment of our community.”

According to information from MoWEC, there are 160 residents on their current delivery list. That means those folks get meals delivered to their doors five days a week. It costs approximately $30 per week to feed a resident. Which means MoWEC spends about $4,800 a week and $249,600 a year to help feed our neighbors.

This is a huge undertaking and the Leadership class wanted to do something to help the local Meals on Wheels organization continue to feed these people.

The good news is you can help, too! Just swing by the Pavilion in the Stephenville City Park from 6:30 until 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and enjoy some awesome breakfast burritos (egg, cheese and sausage or bacon) for only $5 for 2 burrito.

“We decided on the breakfast burrito event because everyone loves breakfast burritos and with delivery service, it allows local businesses to provide breakfast for their employees,” Dr. Howell said. “We’ve already sold more than 1,700 and will take delivery orders through tomorrow morning.  We will also be serving walk-up customers at the City Park Pavilion beginning at 6:30 a.m.”

Orders can be placed at bit.ly/mowb4b and the Leadership class will deliver for free on orders of $50 or more, so order for the office and have them brought to you! For additional information, please text or call Dr. Howell at 254-977-3806.
