STEPHENVILLE – Mary Schindler has announced the hiring of former Harding University star, Molly Howard, to the Tarleton coaching staff.

“I’m very excited to add Molly to our coaching staff,” said Schindler. “She brings an amazing attitude and a strong court presence. I’m thrilled she is a Texan.”

Howard comes to Tarleton after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for her alma mater, Harding, in Searcy, Arkansas. With Howard on the bench, Harding went 53-14 over the last two seasons, including a 28-4 mark in the Great American Conference. Her team earned the No. 8 seed in the Central Regional Tournament last season and pulled off the biggest upset of the national tournament by defeating No. 1-seed Nebraska-Kearney in the opening round.

“I would like to thank Coach (Mary) Schindler and Lonn Reisman for giving me this opportunity,” said Howard. “Coach Schindler has built a very successful program and has immense knowledge of all aspects of the game. I’m looking forward to learning from her and continuing the tradition of excellence in the Lone Star Conference and on the national level.”

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Howard was a four-year standout for the Lady Bisons. She lettered four years, starting three, and was a two-year captain for head coach Meredith Fear. She was a two-time All-GAC First Team award winner and led the team in kills per set as a senior. She finished her career with over 800 kills, 200 blocks and 900 points for Harding.

In addition to her time as a student-athlete, Howard participated in a slew of volunteer activities including Bisons for Christ, the Lee County Princess Project, and volunteer for multiple local school events. She also coached youth volleyball.

Howard is a native of Marianna, Arkansas and graduated from Lee Senior High School before continuing her career at Harding University. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Harding in May 2016. She is currently enrolled in graduate school pursuing a master’s degree in excellence in teaching.

She replaces Katie Hoekman as the team’s top assistant coach. Hoekman accepted a similar coaching position at Pacific University last month.
