COMMERCE – No. 19 Tarleton saw its season come to an end with a 7-5 loss to Cameron in the third round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament.

The TexAnns end the season with a 40-15 record and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third straight season under third-year head coach Mark Cumpian. The TexAnns have won 90 games over the last two seasons, which is the most wins in the Lone Star Conference over that span (Angelo State, 87).

A four-run first inning for Cameron and three Tarleton errors ended up being too much of a deficit to overcome.

The TexAnns’ first run came on Lexi Grimaldo’s RBI single up the middle in the second inning that scored Kristen Zuehl. Grimaldo, a senior second baseman, went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the game to lead the TexAnn offense in hits.

Trailing 7-1 in the fourth, Karli Herron launched a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it a five-run deficit. Herron went 2-for-3 in the game.

In the fifth, Tanna Huie drove in a run on an RBI groundout to start a three-run fifth. Destiny Crumpley followed with a two-run home run to dead center to bring the TexAnns within two.

Despite getting two on in the bottom of the seventh, the TexAnns couldn’t bring home the tying run. Tarleton left seven runners on base in the game.

After throwing the first two games of the tournament, Jordan Withrow came on in relief and threw four shutout innings with only two hits allowed and one strikeout.

The TexAnns had five seniors on the roster this season: Amanda Conner, Tanna Huie, Karli Herron, Elizabeth Svienty and Lexi Grimaldo.
