STEPHENVILLE –– The teachers at Stephenville High School are excited to announce, registration is OPEN for all the arts camps at SISD. Actually, it has been since April, but you’ve still got time to register your kids for camp.

Studies show students who are involved in the arts are more creative and a great way to keep your children engaged this summer are the Art, Theatre and Animation Camps at SISD.

This is the ninth year for the arts camps at SISD and this year there will be five certified teachers heading the camps up. They are Emily McLemore (art), Mindy Pope and Kara Thomas (theatre), Tammy Jones (photography) and Tametha Barker (creative writing).

“This is the ninth year for the camp and the second year for animation camp,” said Mindy Pope. “It was a big hit last year and we’re so excited to offer it, along with the others, for campers. We absolutely love to watch students grow up through this camp. And we’re just as thrilled about this coming camps.”

The theme of this year’s camps is “Circus, Circus” and students enrolled in the animations camp will be creating a circus-themed stop-motion animation as part of the theme.

Campers attending the theatre camp will be working on a circus themed performance and art camp students can expect to work on project similar to the ones pictured here.

“We are really excited to focus on painting, drawing and clay this year. It’s so much fun to watch our campers grow up through our program and become active participants in our art and theatre programs in high school,” said McLemore, a teacher in the program. “These veterans work as camp volunteers and help shepherd campers throughout the day. The self-portrait in the last photo above was done when this little girl was in 4th grade and now she is getting ready to start high school!”

Camps will be held June 11-14 (Tuesday-Friday) and you can choose the morning session from 9 a.m. until 12 noon or the afternoon session from 1 until 4 p.m. There is also an option to come all day which is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Sessions are $75 per session and $140 for the all day session. Campers can be as young as Pre-K (potty trained 3-year-olds and up) for some camps through seniors for others. Animation camp is for 1st through 12th grades, while the arts and theatre camps are for up to 6th graders. Camp sponsors want to assure parents that all campers will be doing age appropriate projects.

The images below are parts of the set for the “Circus, Circus” themed camp that campers will be allowed to color as part of preparing for their performances and gallery showings.

If your child wants to participate in the arts, theatre and animation portions of camp, they will need to be in the all day sessions. All day campers will need to bring a sack lunch.

All camps will be held at Stephenville HS. On the last day of camp (Friday, June 14) the performance and art gallery will be at 5:15 p.m.
