STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that Sam Scarborough of Texan Baseball and Neetika Sud of Tarleton Tennis are the May recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award, presented by Stephenville Apartments.
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.
Sam Scarborough put a cap on his Tarleton Baseball career last month as the starting shortstop in the final five games of the Texans’ season. Scarborough recorded four base hits against UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M and he helped Tarleton reach the Lone Star Conference Championship for the 14th time in program history.
Neetika Sud finished out her sophomore season by leading Tarleton’s surge to the LSC Tournament title match and earning All-LSC honors along the way. Sud earned singles victories in the No. 2 position against Cameron and Angelo State to lift the TexAnns into the LSC Tournament Championship match. She earned All-LSC singles honors, as well as being named to the Academic All-LSC team.
Once selected as student-athlete of the month, the recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the beginning of the following fall semester.

February: Justin Botello (Track & Field) & Mackenzie Hailey (Basketball)
March: Quenten Lasseter (Track & Field) & Kylee Ponder (Track & Field)
April: Rascellis Williams (Track and Field) & Georgia Capell (Softball)
May: Sam Scarborough (Baseball) & Neetika Sud (Tennis)
