Hill, Webster named LSC Scholar-Athletes

STEPHENVILLE (June 10, 2019) – The annual Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners were announced Tuesday with two Tarleton student-athletes honored by league officials.

Tarleton Basketball Academic All-Americans Jesse Hill and Katie Webster were selected as by the LSC as the Scholar-Athlete award winners from Tarleton.

Hill, the LSC Academic Player of the Year, was a CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America Third Team honoree for his efforts on the court and in the classroom last spring.

A forward from Waretown, New Jersey, Hill had a career year where he averaged career highs in scoring, rebounding and blocks. Hill played in all 31 games with 27 starts and averaged 10.6 points on 55 percent shooting, 5.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and was third in the Lone Star Conference with 1.5 blocks per game. Hill was named honorable mention All-LSC for his performance. Hill was the LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time on Feb. 12. Hill is also a three-time LSC Commissioners Honor Roll selection.

Webster was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year in the women’s game, as well as also bringing home a CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-American honor.

Webster was a senior for the Tarleton Women’s Basketball team and averaged 10.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She is a two-time member of the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and was an All-LSC selection and a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American as a junior. In her senior campaign, Webster continued to add to her list of career accomplishments as she was named to the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team and All-Academic Team.

Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.

To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and be a member of the graduating class.
